Topic

1. Discuss a number of uses to which technology is put to monitor workplace activity. What are the fundamental ethical dilemma(s) raised by this use?

Required Elements of Final Project:

        Using the information from Phase 1, students will thoroughly research the topic and define the ethical concerns in detail.

        Using two of the traditional theories from week 2, suggest potential resolutions to the dilemma(s).

       In the discussion of the resolution, include the impact that ethical relativism and globalization may have upon the suggested resolutions of the dilemma(s).

       Select the best resolution and explain in detail why. 

Argue for your positions, objectively, i.e., give reasons intended to weigh with other thinking persons. Do not couch your statements, reasons, or arguments in terms of how you feel, but in terms of assertions for which you provide reasons.

Stick with a clearly defined Act or Rule Utilitarianism, an action-based Kantianism (i.e., steer clear of just saying that good intentions make acts right), and a form of virtue theory that is somewhat objective.

In terms of using information that is gleaned from employee monitoring or surveillance, you will need to keep an eye, as well on various other laws, such as the Americans With Disabilities Act and the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act, the ethical justifications of these acts, and the legal demands

Required Formatting of Final Project:

       This paper should be double-spaced, 12-point font, and six to eight pages in length excluding the title page and reference page;

       Title page;

       Introductory paragraph and a summary paragraph;

       Use sub-headings to demarcate your discussion;

       Write in the third person;

       Use APA formatting for in-text citations and a reference page.  You are expected to paraphrase and not use quotes. Deductions will be taken when quotes are used and found to be unnecessary;

       Submit the paper in the Assignment Folder.

Make sure that your resources are properly cited, in text, and as references cited at the end, using APA format, so that I may check all resource attributions.

Be especially careful to paraphrase whenever at all possible, rather than directly quoting from a source.

Your paper may be submitted to Turnitin, as indicated in the syllabus.
