literature review
Objective: to demonstrate your expanding knowledge in the area of interest and your ability to evaluate and synthesize information from a variety of sources.
Read (selectively and multiple times) in addition to annotating relevant texts from credible sources
Researcher Journal entries will serve as the foundation for RL #2; you may use a double-entry approach to generate ideas and insights and establish a conversation among the sources.
- As you read, pay close attention to the themes emerging in the selected literature. Guiding question: What research question might your create from these sources? What knowledge and understanding is missing?
- Look in the reference list for each source. Find the sources that are listed in two, three, or four of your selected literature.
- Read and annotate the repeatedly cited sources. Guiding question: What research question might your create from these sources? What knowledge and understanding is missing?
- These articles will be your key sources.
- Begin establishing a dialog among sources by comparing ideas and themes in the literature; some may contrast, while others may complement one another. Look for content that defines, presents empirical results, and analyzes findings.
- In light of what you have been learning about the topic, refine your research questions and determine potential hypotheses (see BB for more recommendations).
- Write a paper based on the literature you have been examining that shows your focused knowledge and addresses your research questions (position yourself in relation to the body of knowledge).
- Organize evidence from the literature by attending to a logical division of ideas/themes, NOT BY ARTICLES. Research questions should guide your text organization.
- Create sections in your paper with appropriate subheadings that reflect emerging themes in the literature you have researched thus far (refer to WR and class examples).
Introduction: This is where you introduce the general topic, some of the larger guiding issues, most evident in the source texts, and the purpose of your research.
Body: The narrative should focus on ideas (do not list articles) from the texts that indicate the need for your research [research question(s)]. Draw on authors’ viewpoints using paraphrasing, summary, or direct quotations accurately. Demonstrate how the articles complement or diverge from each other.Three paragraph or synthesizing key analyses of your topic and issue. Synthesize, integrated, and cite at least 3 peer – review sources that have ‘discussion sections’ relevant and important to understand your topic and issue. Claim and evidence.
Conclusion: This is where you present your Research Questions and Hypothesis and indicate propose your research goals and objectives.
You should contain references to at least 10 sources, An APA Reference list. (There are all references I find)
