First Short Written Assignment:

The student will read a chapter by Plutarch on either Caesar, Cicero, or Cleopatra in his Antony chapter.

These chapters can be found online by putting in for your search Plutarch-Lives of Noble Grecians and

Romans (web address: ebooks.adelaide.edu.au/p/plutarch/lives). The website usually pops right up in

your first or second search result. Click into the website and scroll to Table of Contents and click on it. A

lot of chapters show up and you just read the one of the aforementioned three.

After reading the chapter, you answer one 

of two questions that you’ll find in the first file we used in the

course titled Quiz on Prehistory/Ancient Near East. The questions are the second item in the file just

after the practice quiz. You answer the one question depending on which chapter you read. If the Caesar

chapter, answer question 1; if the Cicero chapter, answer question 2. If you read about Cleopatra in the

Antony chapter, answer question 1, just changing the name from Caesar to Cleopatra in it.

Your answer should be about a half to a page in length. It can be longer, but not shorter. It can be typed

or hand written, double spaced if typed and single spaced if hand written. You must provide at least 2

short quotations from the chapter to support your answer. You need only cite the web address in

parantheses following the quotation the first time you quote and need not keep on citing it after each

subsequent quotation. Do not provide your quotations and examples from just the first few pages of the

chapter. Do not copy somebody else’s answer. In over 20 years, I’ve seen them all.  

Here are the two questions:

1. What does Plutarch seem to think of Caesar? Does he provide any evidence that could be used to formulate an opinions of Caesar different than his ? How would you rate Plutarch as a historian in terms of objectivity and insight?

2. What does Plutarch view as strengths and weaknesses of Cicero ? What motives does he attribute to Cicero ? What kinds of things does Plutarch like to focus on in his writing of history ?

You must design a network telecommunications upgrade for the LaFleur Trading Company on the Virtual Organizations web site.

LaFleur Trading Company wants to review their current network and telecommunications system.  They are currently using a Windows^® 2003 server for network operations but want to look at also using UNIX^® or Linux systems as possible additions to increase overall communication security. Unfortunately, little information is available for their current operations. It is necessary to complete research to determine what type of network and communication systems could be the best choices for this type of business. Some assumptions must be made but should be supported by adequate outside research on what has been used for similar companies.

Organizational Chart

As part of the project assignment, you must also examine the LaFleur Trading Company Organizational Chart on the Virtual Organizations website.

Current Network Configuration

The basis for the company network is three Core2 Duo Processor E6320 network servers, using a Cisco^® 2811 router. Network connections are handled through a Cisco^® smart switch bank with the capability of 200 connections.  The current network operating system is Windows^® 2003, but not all patches and updates have been installed, which causes some issues with communication. The computer room is near the CIO’s office and includes connection via T1.

The web server and applications including the customer database are being maintained on one of the three servers previously described.

The new network is to allow the following:

·        All sales, finance, and operations need to share customer order databases to ensure accurate inventory, successful delivery of orders, and that payments are received and accounted for accurately.

·        Operations must be able to be able to monitor deliveries both through the database and through contact with drivers.

·        All employees must have secure company e-mail.

·        All employees must be able to e-mail to people outside the company.

·        There must be web access to all, but also an Intranet with appropriate safeguards.

·        Remote access must be available for executive, sales, and delivery personnel.

·        Provide the most economical and efficient telephonic communications

·        Firewall to Internet capability

·        Configuration of network system that ensures secure access for all employees and protects corporate and customer data

Develop a 5- to 10-slide Microsoft^® PowerPoint^® presentation.

Address the following in your presentation:

·        Describe the necessary changes to the network infrastructure, outlining the benefits to staff, personnel, and customers.

List major points in the slides. Include detailed explanations in the speaker notes section that correlate to each point. Use these speaker notes to assist presenters who may not be IT-oriented or who may be providing this presentation to nontechnical personnel.

Include videos, audio, photos, diagrams, or graphs as appropriate.

Format yourpresentation consistent with APA guidelines.

As the HR Manager, how would you go about dealing with this fact in your organization?

Some communities have been accused of ignoring gang activity to the point that it encourages gangs to feel that they have found a ‘safe haven’.

Write a 2 page paper.  Address the following in your paper:

• Why do some communities become ambivalent to gangs?
• What characteristics make gangs feel safe and how do communities contribute to this feeling?

Include a title page and 3-5 references.  Only one reference can be from the internet (not Wikipedia).  The other references must be from the Grantham University online Library. Please adhere to the American Psychological Association (APA) 6th edition, 2nd printing when writing and submitting papers. Papers should be grammatically correct.  Lastly, avoid first person and contractions in your paper. You can provide an opinion without using “I think” statements.
