Using Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis, examine the way in which Gregor’s family treats him. There is below a list of the elements that you will need to identify as you write your essay.

Write an essay identifying the following elements in Kafka’s story:

 

Introduction: Identify your understanding of Kafka’s purpose. Why did he write this story? What issues does he explore?

 

Body paragraph 1: Define the concept of human nature. What questions about human nature and assumptions about family does the text explore?

 

Body paragraph 2: What are the consequences of Gregor’s metamorphosis for the family and of their treatment of him?

 

Body paragraph 3: What other solutions were available to Gregor’s family?

 

Body paragraph 4: What is Gregor’s perspective? Does it change from the start of his metamorphosis to the end?
