 Question 1:  Using your favorite Web search tool, find examples of countries for each population growth model (rapid, slow, zero). Use examples other than the ones described in the text or the lecture. What evidence can you find to support your choices? What problems/challenges/opportunities do these countries face in the next 10–20 years as a result of their particular class of growth?

Question 2:  Use the Internet to find an environmentally related problem that is happening in your area. Present information about the history behind this problem including what factors led to its occurring and who might be responsible for it. Share what is being done to solve the problem and how effective those efforts are. Present ideas for how you might have handled the situation in the first place to prevent the problem or what you might do now to help solve it. Be prepared to discuss the classes of environmental problems that seem to be widespread and recurring across our country and the world.  (Pennsylvania is my area)

Starting in 2012, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) initiated fundamental changes to how hospitals are paid for services for Medicare recipients, called Value Based Purchasing. This funding mechanism provides incentives to hospitals to reduce rates of preventable injuries. One of the measures used by CMS is hospital borne infections.

Last month Healthy Hospital hired a new director, Ms. Doit Now. She has reviewed the CMS data for Healthy Hospital and wants to focus on reducing the rate of infections.

The research question for the project is “how can we reduce hospital borne infections?”.

Ms. Now asked her assistant do a background search related to the research question. Mr. Assist found that one key element related to infection rates is effective hand washing and that the Centers for Disease Control provided hand washing guidelines that he could use as a standard (CDC, 2012).

Based on his research, he developed a refined research question: Are staff washing their hands according to standards proposed by the CDC?

In this Discussion, you will recommend a quantitative design to provide numerical data related to hand washing compared to CDC standards.

Director Now could use any of the following designs:

·                   Behavioral observation

·                   Correlation research

·                   Quasi-Experimental design

·                   Survey research

·                   True experimental design

Which type of quantitative design do you think is most appropriate? Why?

What specific data collection tool would you use? Why?

What numbers will result from your quantitative process? (Remember that quantitative data designs yield numbers.)

How would you measure the rate of infections? (Remember you need data for both parts of the hypothesis.)

Be sure to define the research terms in your own words with citations in the body of the text and references at the bottom of the post. Explain your choice of design through effective analysis of your option, i.e. identify strengths and weaknesses of your choice and why you believe the strengths outweigh the weaknesses. Discuss the process you will use to implement your idea.

IMPORTANT: Each person should pick a different research design until all have been discussed at least once. This will enhance your discussion.

When responding to student colleagues:

Provide respectful critical analysis of the ideas presented. There are many choices of research design processes for Director Now’s quantitative study. To add to the Discussion provide analysis of any ethical concerns related to your colleague’s research design and how you would ensure that the ethical principles are met. Additionally, you could identify different choices and explain your reasons.

Pick at least one design that you did not use in your answer when responding on the board.

Paper 3 is your final paper. It must be at least 10 pages long, plus a cover sheet and a bibliography.You have options on the topic for this paper. You may pick ONE of the following: 1. The impact of the election of all democrats to the top 5 elected offices in Virginia—Governor, Lt. 5.  RW?

Imagine that you are the one driven to implement the total rewards program of module 5 commentary (you’ll need to read it before doing this question).

a) What is missing? As you’ve read this you may have thought something like: “ok but what about …”? Bring your critical thinking to this (and don’t use my point, below, either) and surface and address a solution for one gap.

b) One of the gaps I see is in establishing the philosophy and communicating. Those points left out the every important getting buy in from the right various people. For example, anticipate the reaction of finance, legal and the president. Before rolling this out, or even pitching it to top management you need to get buy in. What do you anticipate will be the reactions from some of the top management people, given their functional role, and how will you know and proactively address their potential/likely points of view.

Group D:  Please select one of the seven characteristics above and respond with an example of what this term means in terms of IT architecture and why it is so important to a solid architecture to support information systems.  These terms can be applied to other aspects of IT and business in general, but the focus here is on IT architecture.  Some additional research will provide specific examples including what companies have focused on in these areas.  Simply typing “IT Scalability” (or whatever characteristic you select) into your web browser should provide good results, but be sure to evaluate the sources to make sure they are relevant to this discussion.  Remember to distinguish between objective articles and vendor’s marketing information.  As you select your topic, please try to pick one that has not been selected by another student, so we can cover them all.
