Assignment.  You are hired as a statistical analyst for Silver’s Gym, and your boss wants to examine the relationship between body fat and weight in men who attend the gym. After compiling the data for weight and body fat of 252 men who attend Silver’s Gym, you find it relevant to examine the statistical measures and to perform hypothesis tests and regression analysis to help make general conclusions for body fat and weight in men.

Part I: Statistical Measures

Statistics is a very powerful topic that is used on a daily basis in many situations. For example, you may be interested in the age of the men who attend Silver’s Gym. You could not assume that all men are the same age. Thus, it would be an inaccurate measure to state that “the average age of men who attend Silver’s Gym is the same age as me.”

Averages are only one type of statistical measurements that may be of interest. For example, your company likes to gauge sales during a certain time of year and to keep costs low to a point that the business is making money. These various statistical measurements are important in the world of statistics because they help you make general conclusions about a given population or sample.

To assist in your analysis for Silver’s Gym, answer the following questions about the Body Fat Versus Weight data set:

• Calculate the mean, median, range, and standard deviation for the Body Fat Versus Weight data set. Report your findings, and interpret the meanings of each measurement. Notice you are to calculate the mean, median, range, and standard deviation for the body fat and for the weight.

• The measures of central tendency are important in real-world situations.

  • What is the importance of finding the mean/median? Why might you find this information useful?

• In some data sets, the mean is more important than the median. For example, you want to know your mean overall grade average because the median grade average would be meaningless. However, you might be interested in a median salary to see the middle value of where salaries fall. Explain which measure, the mean or the median, is more applicable for this data set and this problem.

• What is the importance of finding the range/standard deviation? Why might you find this information useful?

Part II: Hypothesis Testing

Organizations sometimes want to go beyond describing the data and actually perform some type of inference on the data. Hypothesis testing is a statistical technique that is used to help make inferences about a population parameter. Hypothesis testing allows you to test whether a claim about a parameter is accurate or not.

Your boss makes the claim that the average body fat in men attending Silver’s Gym is 20%. You believe that the average body fat for men attending Silver’s Gym is not 20%. For claims such as this, you can set up a hypothesis test to reach one of two possible conclusions: either a decision cannot be made to disprove the body fat average of 20%, or there is enough evidence to say that the body fat average claim is inaccurate.

To assist in your analysis for Silver’s Gym, consider the following steps based on your boss’s claim that the mean body fat in men attending Silver’s Gym is 20%:

• First, construct the null and alternative hypothesis test based on the claim by your boss.
• Using an alpha level of 0.05, perform a hypothesis test, and report your findings. Be sure to discuss which test you will be using and the reason for selection. Recall you found the body fat mean and standard deviation in Part I of the task.
• Based on your results, interpret the final decision to report to your boss.

Comparing Capital Expenditures

Select a company and access the last three years’ annual reports. Next, select a company that is a direct competitor and download the previous three years’ annual reports.

Using the annual reports of both companies, complete the following in a three- to five-page paper, excluding title and reference page(s):

For each company, report the amount of capital spending for the past three years. Quantitatively determine whether the amount of capital spending has been consistent or if it has fluctuated. Be sure to provide the calculations used to determine your answer. Describe the capital expenditures of each firm and the factors that impacted the companies’ debt capacities and capital structures.

Next, compare the level of capital spending across the two firms. Point out how the spending was similar and/or different and speculate why the similarities or differences might exist. You must use at least three scholarly sources in addition to the text. Support your comparison with evidence from the text, external sources, and articles/reports from the Mergent database in the Ashford University Library.

Format the paper according to the APA 6th edition style guide as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Be sure to properly cite your resources using APA style.

Universal Design for Learning Lesson Plan (2)

Imagine that you taught your class the lesson plan you wrote, during Week Two, on a Monday. You will now write the ‘day two’ (continuation) lesson using the same concept and CCSS that you would teach the next day, on a Tuesday.  Additionally, this week’s lesson plan must include at least TWO assistive technology devices that are geared towards two separate sensory impairments. 

For example:

• Monday’s lesson plan (Week 2):  Addressed teaching addition and subtraction.
  
• Tuesday’s lesson plan (this week’s assignment): This lesson plan will have students practice what they’ve learned or build on the concept with “subtraction with borrowing” or “multiplication”.
  
• Assistive Technology Devices to consider: pencil grips, manipulatives, ELMO, SMARTboard, high-contrast colors, etc.
  
• Monday’s lesson (Week 2): Addressed the use of figurative language in fiction. 
  
• Tuesday’s lesson plan (this week’s assignment): This lesson plan will have students practicing writing figurative language, analyzing it, or building on it with other rhetorical devices. 
  
• Assistive Technology Devices to consider: computer programs, ebooks, iPads, white boards, etc.

Your lesson plan must include the following components:

1. Common Core State Standard (C.C.S.S.) that relates to the content area (English or Math) chosen for Week Two.
   
2. Objectives that are aligned with the C.C.S.S.:
   • What is to be taught.
   • Where and when it is to be taught.
   • Standard of success for the individual lesson (must be measurable).
     
3. One UDL component (multiple means of representation, engagement, or expression) embedded in each lesson.
4. At least two assistive technology devices that are geared towards two separate sensory impairments.
   
5. At least one assistive technology device that can be incorporated class- wide.
   
6. A formative assessment at the conclusion of each lesson to measure students’ mastered the daily objective.
   
7. Teacher self-assessment
   • Even lessons that fail to produce the intended results are an excellent opportunity for reflection, adjustment, and growth. 
   • What problems do you anticipate with the lesson?  
   • What did you learn about AT and UDL from creating this unit?

Your lesson plan should be one to two pages in length 

Submit a 10 to 12 slide PowerPoint Presentation on the reaction to a media piece focusing on a current political issue relating to immigration. Possible media pieces include an article, a video or audio clip, a television show, a book, a documentary, or a movie.

Research the issue of your media piece.

Address the following:

• What is the historical framework of this issue?
• What is the political context of this issue?
• What message does the media piece attempt to portray? Was the media coverage biased or unbiased? Was the issue sensationalized or portrayed objectively?
• How might the media coverage affect the public’s perception of this issue? Does it encourage or discourage prejudice, discrimination, and stereotyping?
• How might this issue affect the U.S. economy and labor force?
• If you were a manager affected by this issue and its media coverage, what inclusion strategies from this week’s reading might you implement to moderate the media’s effect on your employees and to promote inclusion in the workplace?
