Identify and select appropriate variables that you can use to describe your population of interest with respect to your research question/problem.

Directions: You will be applying the epidemiologic methods you have been learning to the ED2010 dataset to answer your research question. To do so the following steps should be undertaken:

Define the population in which you will be answering the question: Identify and select appropriate variables that you can use to describe your population of interest with respect to your research question/problem. Identify the level of measurement and run appropriate descriptive statistics for each variables.

Identify and select appropriate variables that will be use to test your research question or problem (this includes your exposure or independent variables of focus, your health outcome or dependent variables, and any extraneous variables that may confound the relationship between your exposure and health outcome). Note, whether some of your variables require some data cleaning or data manipulation.

Draw a model which illustrates the relationship between your exposure/ independent variable of focus, health outcome/dependent variable, and your extraneous/confounding variables.

Conduct descriptive analyses. Describe the population by the health outcome using the variables you identified in Step 2 & 3, conduct appropriate descriptive analyses.

Conduct analytic analyses: if your research question requires you to test the association/correlation between and exposure/independent variable of focus and your health outcome/dependent variable, conduct appropriate analytic analyses to test the association.

Report and Interpret results from you analysis.

Do adult African American patients with diabetes have a higher readmission rate, within 7 days of hospital discharge then adult diabetes patients of other races?

Variables:

Line 439: age greater than 18

Line 32 discharge from hospital within the last 7 days

Line 62: diabetes diagnosis

Line 401: Race
And there is a SPSS data set that we have to use which is where the variables came from
