Assignment 3: Selling Executives on Project Management 
Due Week 6 and worth 100 points

Read the Chapter 10 Case titled “Selling Executives on Project Management.” Write a one to two (1-2) page paper in which you:

1. Analyze the fundamental reasons why the executives in the case refused to listen to their own employees but were willing to listen to a consultant. Discuss the main reasons why the executives still seemed apprehensive even after the consultant’s presentation.
2. Imagine that you are the consultant from the case study. Speculate on three (3) strategies that you could employ to get the executives to understand your point of view and thus support your project management recommendations.
3. Use at least three (3) quality references. Note: Wikipedia and other Websites do not quality as academic resources.

Create a 10- to 15-slide presentation, with speaker notes, that analyzes police department organization. Include the following in the presentation:

·         Identify major organizational theories associated with policing.

·         Describe the organization of police agencies at the local, state, and federal level.

·         Describe the civil service system and how it affects police organization.

·         Select a city in which one of your team members is currently living. Imagine you are the police chief of a local agency in that city.

“Effects of Divorce” Please respond to the following:

Discuss at least four factors that occur in divorces that can have negative impacts on children. Explain why these factors have negative effects.

Propose specific strategies that parents can use to promote positive outcomes for children who experience divorce.

“IQ Testing” Please respond to the following:

Assess the advantages and disadvantages of telling a parent his / her child’s IQ.

Speculate how assessing a child’s IQ may be beneficial and how it may be harmful.  Enumerate the pros and cons.

You have two workstations over 400 feet apart.  The previous Network Administrator has inserted a Repeater at the middle of the two computers.

The cable was Cat5e.  You found out that the repeater is now broken and need to be replaced.  But the replacement Repeater will not get here until next week and it is critical that you re-establish the network connection.

You checked your network supplies closet and found that you have various networking equipments and supplies including routers, switches, hubs, Ethernet NICs, 801.11b USB Network Adapter, various cables and connectors, etc.

What can you use from your existing spare parts or supplies to reconnect the two computers again?  Explain your answer.

Assignment 3: Human Resources Planning and Employee Relations

Building on the work that you completed in Assignment 2, continue evaluating the role of functions HR in creating a set of Human Resources’ policies and procedures for the acute care hospital.

Write a five to six (5-6) page paper in which you:

1. Explain the importance of maintaining accurate and objective employee records, indicating the consequences that may result from lack of record keeping. Provide support for your rationale.
2. Provide an example of formal and an example of informal documentation that would normally be maintained in an employee file, indicating how each is likely to protect an employer.
3. Determine the most significant factor that will ensure an effective legal termination, indicating the most likely way employees can protect themselves from termination in a downsizing situation. Provide support for your rationale.
4. Analyze two (2) major challenges that today’s health care leaders face in trying to uphold the ethics of critique, justice, and caring, indicating how managers can balance the need for ethics with employee and organizational needs.
5. Create a detailed outline of an effective succession planning process that will help ensure a smooth transition as members of the management team at your organization begin to retire. (The plan should prescribe, at a minimum, how to identify employees for advancement, training and development programs, mentorships, and a timeline for preparing leaders for their role.)
6. From both a management and employee perspective, justify or dispute unionization. Provide support for your rationale.
7. Suggest the best way in which HR can continue to be an effective strategic partner in helping this organization achieve its future goals. Provide support for your rationale.
