Research clearly indicates a connection between substance

Research clearly indicates a connection between substance abuse and child maltreatment. Among confirmed cases of child maltreatment, 40 percent involve the use of alcohol or drugs. An estimated 480,000 children are mistreated each year by a caretaker who has alcohol or drug problems. Additionally, alcohol and drug problems are factors in a majority of cases of emotional abuse and neglect.
Answer the following:
Given these statistics, why do you think a more concerted effort is not made in the media to make citizens aware of the association between substance abuse and child abuse?
Choose one of the following audiences, and describe a plan to heighten awareness of this problem:
Grade and high school students
Parent or child organizations such as Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts
Welfare recipients
Include three action points for implementing this awareness plan nationwide to the chosen audience. Be sure to specify:
Who will deliver the information?
How will the information be delivered?
What systems will be put in place for support if needed by participants?
Include one additional action point to address prevention strategies in the population chosen above.

Discuss some of the impacts of resource constrained projects and what the project manager can do to understand if there is a potential problem.

Assignment 1: Discussion Question Important note: Discussion questions in this course use a case study that is found in Shared Documents in the file named “Project Management Case.” It is strongly recommended that you read this case study before attempting an assignment. Also, it is mandatory that you attempt all assignment questions in the order they are presented in. By the due date assigned, respond to the discussion question. Submit your responses to the Discussion Area. Start reviewing and responding to your classmates as early in the week as possible. Discussion Question Resource constraints can be a huge burden on a project, sometimes causing project issues and/or project failures. Discuss some of the impacts of resource constrained projects and what the project manager can do to understand if there is a potential problem. What can a company and/or a project manager do to help alleviate this problem? Justify your responses.

Eddie, age 9, was referred at the request of his school because of the difficulties that he creates in class. He has been suspended for a day twice this school year. His teacher complains that he is so restless that the rest of the class is unable to concentrate. He is hardly ever in his seat, but roams around the class, talking to other children while they are working. He never seems to know what he is going to do next.
His mother says that Eddie’s behavior has been difficult since he was a toddler. He always required little sleep and was awake before anyone else. When he was small, he got into everything, particularly early in the morning before the others go up. When he was 4, he managed to unlock the door and wander off into a busy main street. He was rejected from a preschool program because of his difficulty behavior and he also had a difficult year in kindergarten.

At their wit’s end, the parents of Jordan, a six year old boy, brought him in for an evaluation. Their already shaky marriage is being severely tested by conflict over their son’s behavior at home and at school. The mother complained bitterly that the father frequently away from home on business, ”overindulged” their son. The son would argue and throw temper tantrums and insist on continuing games, books, etc. whenever his father put him to bed, so that a 7:30 PM bedtime was delayed until 10:30, 11:00 or even 11:30 at night. Similarly, the father had been known to cook 4 or 5 different meals for his son’s dinner if Jordan stubbornly insisted that he would not eat what had been prepared. At school, several teachers had complained that the child was stubborn and spiteful, often spoke out of turn and refused to comply with classroom rules

13. What is FTA? Know how to conduct a fault tree analysis and know how to evaluate the
Tasks:
Task 1 (23 marks)
There are a series of machines in a manufacturing line to complete a required manufacture process, see Table 1. The manufacture line is controlled by the Control Centre.

Note: ? is shape parameter and ??is scale parameter of Weibull distribution; s is shape parameter and t med is location parameter of Lognormal distribution (see, page 81);?? is mean and ? is standard deviation of Normal distribution.
Assume all machines on the manufacturing line keep operation status unless one fails. Answer the following questions:
1) Construct the reliability block diagram to calculate the probability (reliability) that the manufacturing line can fulfil the required process without failure in a periodical maintenance interval of 6 months? (8 marks)
2) What is the time at which a periodical maintenance is carried out when the probability of the manufacturing line to fulfil the required process without causing the process failure is at 85%? (7 marks)
3) If the probability (reliability) that the manufacturing line can perform well to fulfil the required process without failure in 6 months is required to be 95%, what measure should be taken? (8 marks)
Task 2 (15 marks)
Compare three alternative designs by completing the following table where time is measured in days:

Task 3 (16 marks)
The pilots of Green Airlines which flies the Boeing 797 exclusively are known for their “rough” landings. When the force of the landing exceeds the strength of a wheel strut, a fracture (failure) will occur. The strength of wheel strut is affected by number of landings, ?, and described as 650 exp(?0.00132?) psi. Measurements on the force of each landing have determined that the distribution is Weibull with a shape parameter of 1.85 and a scale parameter of 209 psi. Each aircraft averages 3 landings per day.
Answer the following questions:
1) Determine the time (in days) to initial inspection of the landing gear struts to insure no more than a 0.5% chance of a strut fracture (failure). Any fractured struts are then replaced and the inspection interval starts over. (8 marks)
2) If no fracture is found, the struts are inspected again after 60 days. What is the probability of detecting a fracture at the next inspection? (8 marks)
Task 4 (24 marks)
Given the following fault tree:

Answer the following questions:
1) Express the system failure in terms of the basic events using Boolean logic. (6 marks)
2) Find the minimum cut sets. From this analysis, what are the top four basic events that should be the focus of the reliability design effort? (6 marks)
3) If the probability of each basic event is 0.03, estimate the probability of the system failure. (6 marks)
4) If the probability of the system failure is required to be reduced 50 percent based on the result obtained in , consider using redundancy of basic events for achieving the design target. It is required to keep the total number of basic events minimum in all possible solutions. Then, modify the fault tree diagram accordingly to represent your design. (6 marks)
Task 5 (22 marks)
A consumer decides to perform an economic analysis to compare two different automobiles intended for use over the next 10 years. The first auto named Auto_1 averages 23 km per gallon and costs $25,000. Consumer Reports says that the time between failures is gamma with a shape parameter of 2.58 and a scale parameter of 5000 km with an average repair cost of $508. Routine servicing is required every 6000 km at a cost of $130. Trade-in value after 10 years is estimated to be $11,000. The second auto named Auto_2 averages 21 km per gallon and costs $23,000. It has a time between failure distribution that Consumer Reports says is minimum extreme value with a scale parameter of 805 and a location parameter of 9350 km. Average repair cost as advertised is $400. Routine servicing is required every 6500 km at a cost of $145. Trade-in value after 10 years is estimated to be $9500. The consumer averages 18,000 km per year and has an available investment rate of return 4.5 percent. Inflation is expected to average 3.25% in every year over the next decade.
Answer the following:
1) Given the cost of gasoline will be $3.0 per gallon in the first year and it will be increased year by year based on the inflation rate, which automobile should be purchased based only on the economic data provided? Give a short analysis report. (11 marks)
2) How would the life cycle costs compare if the cost of gasoline averages 3.50 (inflation has been
considered) a gallon and the automobile is driven 16,000 km/year? (11 marks)
