Explain the relationship of the development of nursing science to the profession, i.e. history, influences, structure of nursing knowledge and theory development.
/in Uncategorized /by JosephExplain the relationship of the development of nursing science to the profession, i.e. history, influences, structure of nursing knowledge and theory development.
The Nursing Profession is still under an evolution phase, a phase of receding and evolving new paradigms. The last decade and the arrival of the new millennium set up a new era of Nursing Knowledge and Nursing Science. Historically, this was not the case. Many things have changed since Nightingale’s era, what remains, however, is the need of a key understanding about Human Beings as individuals and their placement in a comprehensive social framework. Alligood (2002) stated: “As the nursing profession development continues, it has become quite clear that critical thinking and professional nursing practice are inextricably linked”, but we must be sure that critical thinking, as a concept, doesn’t trapped us in the Platonic Cave to see only the shadows of the reality (http://www.nursing.gr/theory/).
Progress has always been part of nursing. Historically and now through the development of nursing science, however, nurses have advanced in knowledge, technology and standards since Florence Nightingale (considered the founder of modern nursing) wrote her landmark book, “Notes on Nursing: What It Is, and What It Is Not,” in 1859 (see http://jobnews.ajcjobs.com/news/content/nurses/articles/2007_0506_evolution.html).
Thus, the 21st century opened with monumental changes for the nursing profession with influences such as: a graying nursing profession, a shortage of practicing nurses, an increasing demand for nurses, fewer nursing faculty, and a rapidly changing global healthcare arena. For nurses to response to the needs of the rapidly changing global healthcare arena, nurses must be socialized into the nursing profession. The profession of nursing recognizes socialization into a discipline is guided by theories use of language, identification of concepts, and definition of relationships, structured ideas, and facilitation of disciplined inquiry, practice and communication, as well as predicting outcome of nursing practice. This is provided through nursing science, expanding knowledge and the individual nurse is socialized (e.g. education, skills, etc.) into the profession in the new and changing world (http://www.nursing.gr/theory/).
The nursing professionals apply theory to describe, explain, predict or prescribe nursing practice. However, the process of socialization remains elusive. Educating the development of the individual as a nurse to be socialized into the nursing profession

Explain the potential impact of each pitfall on the organization and on the team.
/in Uncategorized /by JosephIn this week’s required reading, The Value of Valuing Employees, the author states that there are six pitfalls that a leader can fall into—poor behaviors that can make employees or followers feel as if they don’t matter. Comaford (2013) states that “When employees are made to feel that they don’t matter, it happens on an emotional level, not an intellectual one” (para. 6). You have been hired to prepare training materials to help entry level managers identify and understand pitfalls of leadership and how to prevent them. Think about each of the pitfalls mentioned in the reading. For each of the six pitfalls, provide a strategy that new managers can use to not fall victim to the pitfalls of leadership. Offer an example of what each strategy would look like in an example organization. Explain the potential impact of each pitfall on the organization and on the team. Support your statements with two outside academic sources other than the textbook, course materials, or other information provided as part of the course materials. Write a 3- to 4-page paper, using each pitfall as a separate heading in your paper. For this assignment, you will want to refer to the handout – Writing an Effective Essay. You may also want to view the sample paper, Does your paper look like this? and go to the CSU-Global Library’s APA resources for an APA Template Paper. Be sure your paper follows APA style according to the CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA Requirements.
